The EcoMapper is an AUV (autonomous underwater vehicle) produced by YSI, Inc. that collects data on up to 10 water quality parameters simultaneously.
After surface deployment, the AUV cruises through the water column at speeds up to 4.6 mph using a preprogrammed trajectory.
The data can then be accessed online or even through a mobile phone
In the end, this robotic sensor technology allows the user to collect high resolution 3D spatial data for studies such as pollution monitoring, storm response, and diel fluctuations (i.e. 24-hour cycles).
These highly detailed views of aquatic environments are truly at the cutting edge.
